1/16/2024 0 Comments Vector raster point dataPolygon in polygon overlay can expose issues. Underlying calculations determine the number of intersections occurring when drawing lines between entities and points outwith the polygon boundary ( Figure 5). Conducting an overlay with vector data may seem theoretically simple but it is operationally complex. Overlaid features can be combined using Boolean logic to get all overlaying features (union) ( Figure 2), only features that are spatially coincidental (intersection) ( Figure 3), and only features that are not spatially coincidental (symmetrical Difference) ( Figure 4). Overlay analysis, in a vector model, is a process of placing a point, line or polygon on top of another map layer. The red line is drawn using straight line, or Euclidean distance. However, built in resolution levels can mask geographical details, leading to underestimated results.įigure 1 – The blue line illustrates a line drawn using Manhattan distance. Area can be calculated by adding together the number of cells in a region, then multiplying by the resolution. In addition, raster structure allows distances to be calculated from one cell to all other cells, a process called proximity. However, distance can also be calculated using Manhattan distance, following the length of the path only using cell side lines, illustrated in Figure 1. Distance calculations use Euclidean distance, adding the number of cells in a straight line together and multiplying by the resolution. Raster distance and area calculations are simple and quick to run. Such calculations only need to be run once, with information being stored in attributable tables. Coordinates give vector data precision and high positional accuracy, creating distance and area calculations with veracity. Area is calculated using geometry, and is computed by splitting polygons into smaller, less complicated shapes, enabling swift and efficient calculation. Vector models calculate Euclidean distance of lines and perimeters using Pythagorean theory (Heywood et al., 2011), based on explicit coordinate locations for each node. However, any comparison between models should be made based on utility.ĭifferences between the models become apparent when conducting fundamental spatial operations. Within current literature there is debate about the utility of vector compared with that of raster, with some asserting that vector’s accuracy is superior, and more appealing because its graphic similarity to paper maps. Vector models are stored through individual entities in the form of points, lines, and polygons, with raster comprising grid cells of a predefined resolution. There are two main types of data models available to GIS: vector and raster.

With new leadership, Easy Company prepares for Operation Overlord. Colonel Robert Sink, the regiment's commander, reassigns Sobel to command of a parachuting school for essential non-infantry personnel. These factors lead all of Easy's non-commissioned officers to resign en masse. Now a captain, Sobel initiates a dispute with Lieutenant Richard "Dick" Winters, leading to Winters requesting a trial by court martial. The company is shipped to England in September 1943, and as training progresses, Sobel's inadequacy as a leader in the field becomes evident. In 1942, Easy Company trains at Camp Toccoa, Georgia, under First Lieutenant Herbert Sobel, a strict disciplinarian who goes out of his way to find fault with his men. Teleplay by : Erik Jendresen and Tom Hanks Their experiences, and the moral, mental, and physical hurdles they must overcome, are central to the story's narrative. Other soldiers recover after treatment in field hospitals and rejoin their units on the front line. Many either die or sustain serious wounds which lead to their being sent home. Īs the series is based on historical events, the fates of the characters reflect those of the persons on which they are based. While the series features a large ensemble cast, each episode generally focuses on a single character, following his action. Major Richard Winters (1918–2011) is the central character, shown working to accomplish the company's missions and keep his men together and safe. It includes the taking of the Kehlsteinhaus (Eagle's Nest) at Obersalzberg in Berchtesgaden and refers to the surrender of Japan. Starting with jump training at Camp Toccoa, Georgia, Band of Brothers follows the unit through the American airborne landings in Normandy, Operation Market Garden, the Siege of Bastogne, the invasion of Germany, including the liberation of a concentration camp, and on to the war's end. Over ten episodes the series details the company's exploits during the war. Ambrose quotes a passage from the speech on his book's first page this passage is spoken by Carwood Lipton in the series finale.īand of Brothers is a dramatized account of "Easy Company", part of the 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, assigned to the United States Army's 101st Airborne Division during World War II. The title of the book and series comes from the St Crispin's Day Speech in William Shakespeare's play Henry V, delivered by King Henry before the Battle of Agincourt. Excerpts from interviews with some of the survivors are used as preludes to the episodes, but they are not identified by name until the end of the finale. The characters portrayed are based on members of Easy Company. The series took some literary license, adapting history for dramatic effect and series structure. The events are based on Ambrose's research and recorded interviews with Easy Company veterans. The series dramatizes the history of "Easy" Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, from jump training in the United States through its participation in major actions in Europe, up until Japan's capitulation and the end of World War II. The series won the Emmy and Golden Globe awards for best miniseries. Episodes first aired on HBO starting on September 9, 2001. It was created by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, who also served as executive producers, and who had collaborated on the 1998 World War II film Saving Private Ryan. Ambrose's 1992 non-fiction book of the same name. Band of Brothers is a 2001 American war drama miniseries based on historian Stephen E. Here's the cost of the parts to give you a rundown. Honestly 75% of this project was the tinkercad design for the case, and figuring out a screen that would fit, could be powered easily off a single USB cable, and customizing the software. The main computer is a Raspberry pi zero with an 8 Gig micro SD card, and the screen is a 3.5" screen from Kuman that had an HDMI port already on it. The Mirror is a 4.5" mirror that is simply glued (glue gun) onto the frame. It's two simple pieces that easily snap together. I immediately began to run with that concept, experimenting with what raspberry pi's I could fit in, how to easily create the case, and how to get the software running. After discovering N-O-D-E's channel on youtube, he had a concept of a small pyramid case. I started to build one recently as a gift, and had no idea how much the 2 way mirror portions can cost! After spending $75.00 (USD) on a mirror alone, I realized that the project was going to go well out of our 'friend gift budget' and I had to rethink my strategy. I've seen a ton of magic mirror projects and have always wanted to build one. I wanted to take time to write down the steps here, as I enjoy the instructable community, and I wanted a place to make notes about things like the software configuration, and answer questions. The youtube video shows the assembly end to end, and has a demo at the end showing what the finished project looks like. The third picture above should show what that can look like. This creates an effect of being able to have digital text, icons, or even images show through a mirror, while still maintaining the reflectivity. Where the screen shows white or lighter pixels, they shine through. Where the screen shows black pixels, the mirror is reflective. A 'Magic MIrror' is a project where a 2 way mirror is placed over a screen of some sort. 1/15/2024 0 Comments Americal little theatre movementOne of Charlotte’s oldest cultural organizations, Theatre Charlotte has overcome many challenges during its long history, but 2020 stands out as an especially trying year. Damage from fire at Theatre Charlotte on December 28, 2020. No one was harmed, but the fire resulted in major damage to Theatre Charlotte’s 216-seat auditorium located at 501 Queens Road. This was also the era of the Little Theatre Movement and the New Stagecraft the former stimulated the growth of amateur theatres to stage plays spumed by the professional theatre, many of these titles.Thousands upon thousands of playgoers have filled the seats in Theatre Charlotte’s auditorium since it first opened to the public in December 1941, but the auditorium stood empty on the evening of December 28, 2020, when an electrical fire broke out. That was the undeclared mandate when, in the Twenties, American culture came of age and impressed the world with the work of Eugene O'Neill, the Theatre Guild, and the ingenious song and dance confections of the Great White Way. Moreover, educational programs of this kind could exist anywhere in the land because this society didn't buy the notion of restricting accessibility of educational opportunity to national centers of arts production, which was the tendency in traditional Western education. It actually required a generation or two to work out the rationale justifying the inclusion of the arts in education, but when it emerged first in music) the import was that the arts could have a place in schooling and even an important place if the community or constituency wanted them dealt with. In other cultures, study and pursuit of theatre and the arts remained a privilege of a select, persistent few in America serious interest in the arts would be available for anyone who possessed the requisite talent and energy. When the Yankee spirit generated the democratic right to education for all, Old World molds had to be broken and new patterns evolved. The society at that time did not exhibit a sure sense of its indigenous sell In all the arts, its agenda called for clever imitation of European models. Nor did it seem likely to do so in the years after the Civil War. It could have happened only in the United States, for indeed no other society has granted theatre the position in its educational structure that it occupies in America. To assess the condition of the theatre in education today, we need to consider how theatre won its place. But by the second centennial these activities had spread so widely in colleges and schools that theatre education was the largest enterprise within the nation's theatrical scene. More explicitly, putting on plays and studying drama did not hold a high priority for the nation's schools in America's first hundred years. At length, theatre made itself too useful and productive to be ignored and won a modest place in the nation's education system. Yet the foster child proved attractive and resourceful, even when it had to endure misunderstanding and exploitation. When the family prospered and grew, it gained in recognition but felt intimidated from being regarded as an illegitimate child of the Humanities. For generations this fosterling didn't seek acknowledgment as a fully autonomous member of the education family it sought to be tolerated and occasionally indulged in its playmaking as it made its way through a prolonged childhood. Not an important lace, to be sure, for its role resembled that of a foster child of whom the family often seemed unaware. Theatre has had a place in American education for more than a century. 1/15/2024 0 Comments Gulf breeze weather reportWind damage was extensive across the region, especially in areas that experienced the eyewall of Sally over a several hour duration. Lens shift and zoom are handy if you want more flexibility in placement. Just get one that has great picture quality and high brightness. What features should you look for?: If you're connecting the projector to an audio system (and you should, either receiver/speakers or soundbar), then you don't really need many features in the projector itself. Great picture quality, but they're well beyond what we usually test. Above $3,000 there's a big jump in picture quality again, and from there the sky's the limit. Spending more gets you incremental improvements. They're not as bright, but they're great for their intended use. Some highly portable and battery-powered models are far less. Less than that usually requires a compromise of some kind. How much should you spend?: $1,000 is the sweet spot with projectors, where you can get great picture quality and brightness. A claimed 2,000 lumen projector is probably brighter than a 500 lumen projector, but 1,500 and 1,700 lumen projectors are probably the same. But the specs are largely divorced from reality. Companies claim million-to-one contrast ratios, insane brightness ratings, and even more. For mixed-use rooms where it'll be hard or impossible to totally control the ambient light, or if you want an outdoor movie night with an image the size of the side of your house, one that prioritizes light output will be better, because the contrast ratio won't be as noticeable. Where are you using it?: For light controlled rooms and home theaters, a projector with a high contrast ratio is better than one that prioritizes light output. However, a brighter projector will be easier to see with some lights on, and can create an even bigger image. A projector with a great contrast ratio but only average light output is going to look better than the opposite. Even so, there's a wide range of picture quality even among projectors of a similar price. Want a TV that's 100-inches or more? Only a projector can do that, if you're not ultrarich. However, they largely make up for it with absolutely massive images. Picture quality: Projectors lag behind TVs when it comes to overall picture quality. 1/14/2024 0 Comments Bjork debut wikiThat she delivered it all in a voice that seemed – still seems – beamed in from another planet only elevated that sense of alien wonderment.įollowing Homogenic, each subsequent album chimed with a crucial point of change in my life: 2001’s tactile, more introverted Vespertine soundtracked university loneliness 2004’s more primal Medúlla with that weird post-university grey area, and 2007’s more vibrant Volta and its semi-flirtation with pop with finally getting a career off the ground. Björk engaged with the human condition in abstract and exciting ways that seemed to channel people’s prejudices into something powerful. I longed to be as heartbroken as the protagonist in Unravel (“While you were away, my heart came undone”), or as chaotic as whatever was going on in the fracturing techno of Pluto. Homogenic’s lead single Joga’s heart-swelling lyrics, specifically “state of emergency”, could often be found scrawled on my teenage notebooks, on torn envelopes and around the edges of newspapers. My obsession was genuine and long-lasting. I would spend a lot of money collecting CD singles, deluxe box sets, unofficial books, gig tickets and T-shirts, perhaps with the hope that “being eccentric” could take the place of “being tall” as the impression I gave the world. Knowing their names was currency, even if my corner of Kent didn’t care. Her creative world involved so many auteurs: rising French director Michel Gondry, LFO’s Mark Bell, photographers such as Stéphane Sednaoui and designers including Alexander McQueen. If I’m being honest, after years of obsessing over post-imperial phase Michael Jackson, Björk also tapped into my growing teenage urge to be thought of as someone who might, at best, be cool-adjacent. The album’s rush of on-the-surface emotions cracked me open, while its sonic palette – angry, volcanic beats fused with sweeping strings almost too beautiful to bear – matched my fluctuating moods. Around the time of Post, in 1995, and her most successful single, It’s Oh So Quiet, she became a UK tabloid mainstay, fuelled by an infamous event in a Bangkok airport in which she attacked a journalist. When she collected awards she’d say things such as, “ I am grateful grapefruit” instead of: “I’d like to thank God and my label.” Her videos were dreamlike expressions of worlds no one had ever before imagined, and her singing voice came with a checklist of tics (“ chaaaiiirrr”), rolled Rs, dramatic swoops and guttural growls. Her eccentricities were baked into her public identity: she was Icelandic, so spoke in a “funny accent”. Or that’s how she had been fetishised by a mainstream that had welcomed her to their bosom following 1993’s Debut. I needed to know that you didn’t have to look or act like everyone else, and that what made you different could be alchemised into a strength. I was a confused, closeted gay teenager whose mannerisms gave him away, and whose Stretch Armstrong body meant he couldn’t just walk into a room and disappear. I wanted desperately to be like everyone else. But as I got older, and ganglier, that desire to stand out vanished. During one memorable school assembly in which the teachers wanted to show how varied the human race is they picked a small person to come out and stand next to a tall person. When I was young, standing out was great: I wanted people to see me. My early nickname, Slug, came from a picture of me as a newborn, my older sister awkwardly holding me tightly cocooned in a blanket, her face contorted into a baffled half-smile. I was a tall child, and I’d been a tall baby. I wasn’t a weird kid per se, but I looked weird. 1/14/2024 0 Comments AutoMounter for mac download freeWith extFS for Mac by Paragon Software, your Linux’s logical volume manager won’t lose any of its functions.
